Running a business is hard.
Whether you are the business, work in a business or are thinking of setting up a business, the to-do list is endless.
Add to that personal aspirations (like not getting a divorce because you’re never not working) and (god forbid) creative urges (the ones you know won’t make you rich but will certainly make you happy)… well, things can get overwhelming, fast.
A few weeks ago, I had a big opportunity to make a dent in my to-do list. I had five days pretty much alone (15-year-old boys don’t count as company).
My partner, daughter and our dog were in France for Easter.
Five whole days.
I had plenty I could do with my time. I know myself well enough by now and I don’t do well without some kind of structure when faced with the endless possibilities of a rare, five-day solo sprint.
So, I used ChatGPT to have the best 5 days I could.
I define BEST as:
Plenty of downtime
Ticking off some house, life and business admin tasks
Working on some meatier projects I never seem to get around to starting
Here’s what happened:
1. Calm
I kid you not, I felt 100% less overwhelmed at the start, during and at the end of my solo stint. I told ChatGPT everything I would ideally like to achieve in five days and why. We prioritised, categorised and produced a rough schedule for my solo time (my kind of heaven).🧘🏼
2. Got stuff done
I got all the things I wanted to get done, done. I constantly re-prioritised with ChatGPT's help based on how I was feeling, my motivation, energy levels and initial up front goals. I have the app on my phone so can check in as soon as a new thought pops into my head.✅
3. Deep thinking
I progressed some big, deep-thinking projects I've had on my list for months by digging into what was holding me back. I shared thoughts no human should be subjected to hearing 17 times in search for clarity.🤔
4. Finance strategy
I mapped out an entire personal finance strategy based on a random tax-related question. This led to me opening up a Business Savings Account, overpaying my mortgage and having a clear savings strategy for the next 3-5 years. (I'll be a millionaire this time next year...only joking).🤑
5. Downtime
I made sure I also factored in downtime. I went for a swim, to the gym (plus some home workouts), had breakfast with a friend, had spontaneous chats with my son and watched plenty of Netflix.📺
As the debate rages over whether AI will be the end of us, I’m quietly turning into Superwomen.🦸🏼♀️
I am not using it to write content (the only thing people seem to be talking about these days, although editing… absolutely) but I am using it to wade through and make sense of all the ideas and to-dos that constantly fill my brain, prioritise them and action where appropriate.
Where do you stand when it comes to AI? Would you spend five days with ChatGPT?
Hit reply or leave a comment and tell me. I’d genuinely love to know.
Loads of interesting comments on the original format of this post over on LinkedIn for those of you that way inclined.🕴🏼
That’s it for this week. Have a lovely bank holiday Monday for those of you lucky to have a day off.☀️⛅😎
I’ve never considered using AI to help organise the thoughts and lists in my head into actionable steps. I’m a writer at heart so absolutely against using it to write. But as a business owner (solo - wearing all the hats) actually it sounds like it could be very useful.
My husband is really into using ‘Chat’, as we now call him, in this way. I have seen how focused he’s becoming with this tool to support him. I use it randomly - odd question, bit of support around decision-making. Maybe more in the future. Like you, I’m generally leaning in, though, not away x
